Amit Agarwal – the ultimate blogger (Part II)
Well in labnol.org, he has not concentrated much on categories, as you can not even find out where the categories are mentioned or what categories he is interested in. He has given something more easier to browse with the keywords mentioned in the form of tag and under each tag you can see the related articles lined up.
Now coming to his menu section. He has a “What’s popular” section, as the name suggests the popular articles of the blog are lined up just the way it is lined up for tags and it ir running into pages, so easy for any newbie or someone naive to find what he is looking for. The second section is “How-to guides“. Just the same way as the first section. Perhaps if you notice there is no or much difference in the side bar, it is just the change in the main content.
He is really generous to offer anyone a chance to be a part of his blog and that’s the third section deals with “Become an author”. There are few set of norms and rules that you have to abide by to get there as an author, perhaps for all your efforts you will be not be paid a dime but something more than that. A short description of you and your site(along with url) will be mentioned in his blog provided your article gets approved.
“Widgets” column is exclusively dedicated to increase the popularity of his site. This is one best way not to miss anyone who gets there to his site. Readers have an ample of options to choose the means by which they can follow him.
There is something surprising about his “Favourite website” section, he has lined up his favourite website, looks like he is following these blogs and may be he is finding content clues from these blogs for his blog. The most shocking thing is that he has connected these blogs in a page and when you check out each website, the website is opening in the same window which simply means he is losing his readers. Imagine someone who is new to the site and he does not Amit Agarwal and if he happens to open this particular page and a particular website in this page he wont get back to Amit’s blog.
Last but not the least, a “Ask a question” section just to grow his knowledge with his readers.
How is making money?
Adsense is his main source of income stream as we all know, but how and where has he placed them all. In the first place looks like he is a premium customer of Google adsense and that means he will be assisted in his adsense designs, location and position.
Article page: You can see 2 adsense at the top and bottom of each content. Top one is right in between the tittle and content and the bottom one in between content and “Share this page”.
Pages where you can see the articles lined up, just like the What’s popular, how-to guide and under every tag you can see the adsense displayed only on the bottom, may be because he does not want his audience to get diverted. There is no adsense found in sections where he is trying to communicate something, for eg. Become an author, Widgets, Favourite websites and forum.
Common adense: You can see the link unit “728 * 15″ right under the menu and a text and image ads “300 * 250″ right under the author intro in the side bar.
He is also making money out of the Adsense for feed and Adsense for search. A common Adsense for Search is seen on the top above the menu adjacent to the heading of the blog and there is another Adsense for Search at the end of every article after the Share this column.
Apart from that he has 3 sky scrappers in the side bar.
His blog is under his control.
Usually tags are a bad idea for those who use Adsense, as they line up all articles that are connected to a keyword, perhaps here he has a system that shows all articles under a heading lining up in a page and if at all you check up an article it opens in another page.
In addition, if you go through the comments column you can see no links there. He is just a way conscious about his popularity not being used in favour of any other website.
Thats it for now. If I come across something more about his blog I will share it here.
“Thanks for your time & Have a great day”
