She is a perfect wife – Part III

Courtesy: thumbs.dreamstime.comWith a clear mind like undisturbed water, he slept hassle free. He got up in the morning and prepared a presentation with every information about the product that occupied his brain. He poured out his knowledge on a plate and segregated the positive points and negative shades of his product. He was very conscious about not getting caught with his own explanation just as the other sales people do. He rehearsed it, recited it, revitalized himself and reiterated in his mind mentioning “With such a presentation, there is not going to be a no from your client.” He carried his ace up the sleeve to his higher authority in order to explain him his strategy that he had in hand to close the deal. Graveyard silence but an essence of joy sprung in the room. He knew his boss never opened his mouth except for blasting him. He saw his boss nod his head which reached an inch above and below and he always wondered how he kept it so restricted and suave. With a limited nod which was a cue of acceptance beyond the shadows of doubt, he cleared the room with an irreplaceable hope that the deal was going to be in favour of him.

The most awaited presentation was just one hour away. This time he preferred not to be a bad worker blaming recession. He realized he was a bit fingers and thumbs unusually. His over-concern and continuous rehearsal left him with nothing but jitters. Though his brain knew he was not new to presentation, the frequent reciting of the presentation embossed his heart with an unwanted negative shade that kept echoing “This is not your day”. He took a deep breath – a sigh to unveil the confident and brave sales man who lied dormant. He decided that that was time to erupt. He entered the seminar session and greeted his delicates. Though the inception revealed his nervousness, he grabbed the opportunity to prove his mettle. The hall witnessed a gradual progression from a panicky polytechnic student to a proficient IIM professional. He carried the show with so much ease that it appeared like an impeccable performance from an expert magician who practiced like a devil. The presentation was a clean slate. He effortlessly navigated like an iguana, changed his color like a chameleon and bought a permanent place in his heart’s boss. He came up with a whole hearted appreciation “Good job done”.

With heart full of satisfaction, face overwhelming with joy, hopes inundating and confidence skyrocketing, he was convinced that he has impressed his client. He knew his client would be calling only in the evening to let him know the result, perhaps he yelled aloud to himself “I know the result myself”.   He came back home and leaned back on the couch to watch his favourite serial Friends on Star World. His eyes rolled on to see all the characters, his ears stayed awake to receive the jokes, perhaps he never laughed, as his brain was preoccupied in the analysis and reanalysis of his performance with his client. He heard his phone ringing. The ring went once – he jumped out of his sofa, the ring went for the second time – he was looking for his mobile, the ring went for the third time – he found his mobile and uttered “Hello, good evening. May I know who is on the line?” It was a female voice on the other end of the call which replied “Good evening Sir, we are calling from United Indians Bank. We have come up with a …..”. Unlike the impatience exhibited by most people, he gently interrupted to say “Sorry, I am awaiting another call, catch you up some other time.”

Immediately there was another call. With a doubtful tone he answered “Good evening. May I know who is on the line?”. Just as expected, it was nothing else than the call from his client. The conversation went on for a while which brought a smile on his face. Nonetheless, at the end of it all, the voice on the other side brought a disaster stating “No matter what, this was proposed to be taken into consideration by the end of next month. Looking forward for your call by then.”

He was shattered into pieces hearing that. He knew it was close but he could not close. The deal can’t be taken into account for the month.  He could not understand where he went wrong rather he did not have the patience to do analyse the failure of the closure. He gave a call to his boss and stated “I am mailing the resignation” and put the phone even before his boss talked back. He knew that if it was not him to decide the resignation, the company will take care of his termination.  He preferred to walk out rather than to be pushed out. He sat back and sipped a cup of water. He thought about his future, but he saw no future with what was left with him. He decided not to disclose and destroy the happiness of his house, at least not a day before his wedding anniversary. Having decided to veil it, he consoled himself he had enough vitamin M (money) to manage the next day’s shopping and make ends meet for the forthcoming 2 months. He prepared his mind to go for shopping with his wife.
