She is a perfect wife – Part I
After a long days work so tired and led to fatigue, he came back home expecting a hot tea served with love and care from his wife. When he knocked the door, there came a response “On the way dear”, meanwhile he received a phone from his higher authority. The higher authority put him on a conference with another authority to discuss on a deal that has to be closed by Saturday which was just 5 days away. He knew he was going to be losing his peace of mind at the end of the call. He turned around and started talking. He explained the strategy he had in mind to sell his product and at the end of it all as he expected, he was blasted. When the telephonic conversation was over, he turned around and found that the door was still closed. He honked the calling bell followed by a hard knock on the door. She came shouting “oh please, I am on the way”.
She opened the door and received his belongings – the laptop and lunch carrier, and enquired “how was your day?” He was busy removing his knot on the tie and when he turned around to answer, he realized she was not around him. When he walked to the hall after a dress change, he noticed his belongings on the sofa and her wife with his son on the floor busy watching a serial. He made his way to the kitchen to grab a cup of water. He engaged himself on the sofa after clearing his belongings and called his son to come up to him to play with him for a while, just a way to show his care for his son. He said “dad, can’t you see I am watching the serial. I will catch you after that.” With a little bit of disappointment he leaned back to think about his financial commitments for the month. The first thing that crossed his mind was the deal that he was supposed to close. He knew if it was not closed, his employment would become a question mark.
They sat for the dinner. She served her husband and her son the chappathi and dal curry to add spice to it. He had a piece so dipped in the curry that the whole piece was immersed with just the tip of the piece that he was holding was left out without the curry. But still he found it to be rough. His son tore the chappathi and tasted it to say “Mom, where did you learn the preparation? It never was and is good.” He gave a sly smile at his son, thinking that his son was doing something which he was not capable of. She showed both of them a face like thunder and beckoned her son, finger on lips. She started feeding him and she did it very hastened as though the world was going to come to an end in minutes. Looking at the way she was feeding his son, he noticed bright signs of financial obligation from her.
Once after feeding the son, she ordered him to hit sack and reminded him to fall asleep as otherwise it would get late to school. She had some private moments with her husband. He had a confirmation from the way she moved close to him that there was going to be an appeal, perhaps he had no clue how huge it would be. She started with a low tone which read “It is our wedding anniversary coming Monday. It is just 7 days from now. Have you planned anything? “. So poised and composed, he answered “Hmm, I remember”. As a part of the wedding celebration, she requested him a silk saree and a choke made in gold. For a moment, he travelled on a flashback to think what happened when he refused to get her the saree, the previous year. In order to avoid the disaster again, he nodded and said “Anything for you dear”, which made her very happy. She pushed her lips towards his forehead to kiss him and asked him “Do you need more dal?”
Though he sounded so calm, his mind had an abundant to gripe about whenever he thought of the financial commitments which flashed up each time he was reminded that the month end was not far way. He decided to distract himself by having some mild moments with her. She came to the room with a glass full of rasam(a liquid material to ease digestion). He received it and gave a huge swig that not even the last dropped was left out to trace what was in the glass before. He gulped it so fast to grab her to bed.
