Tragedy details
Date of accident: Dec 2-3, 1984 (Happened in the night)
Cause: Leakage of deadly Methyl isocyanate gas
Found guilty under the sections:
Initially
Causing death by negligence: Section 304-A (2 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5,000)
Culpable homicide not amounting to murder: Section 304-II
Gross negligence: Section 338
And also Sections 336 and 337 of the Indian Penal Code.
Finally
Restricted under sections 304(A) (causing death by negligence) and 304-II (culpabale homicide not amounting to murder) of Indian Penal Code.
