azhagu thathumbum “Angadi Theru” aadambaram illai, asingam illai, verum unmai
My recent movie was “Angadi Theru”. The way it started gave me a clue that the director had a negative approach to the movie. Let us get into the movie review.

Intro: A movie to project the life of young boys & girls in huge wholesale shops like Saravana stores. Looks like the target is Saravana stores and it is evidently clear when everyone calls the owner by honourable name “Annachi”. A huge mess to eat, a vast room to dump everyone inside and common toilets for all, can you imagine a place so unhygienic, but yet there exits places of this kind. Does this happen only in India, no this happens in places where poverty & population surpasses each other and grows without curtailment.
Heart-touching scenes
1. There is a scene where a girl seeks permission from the supervisor to hit the loo. This makes us wonder if we really do enjoy democracy; realty bites and yes there are chances for this poorly-paid employees to undergo hallucination of this kind.
2. There is a scene where a love letter reaches the supervisor, in his efforts to find the culprits (the pair), the supervisor lines up boys and girls and starts his interrogation. Unwilling to bear the brutality on one of her friends during interrogation, the female culprit admits that she is the one responsible for the letter.
[There the girl portrays a lot of bravery, unconditional love, perhaps she loses hope when she discovers that the bravery was missing in the guy, thereby commits suicide. It would have been a way better if she had decided to commit homicide of her lover instead of suicide lol.]
3. Innocence of the hero springs unconditionally when he gets to know that he became a reason for the supervisor to use the heroin sexually, he cries and comes up with an apology realising his blunder.
Over exaggeration
1. Heroin’s sister was pushed in a room after she attains puberty. Come on, I guess everyone has a little heart.
2. The last scene where the hero and heroin met with a lorry accident was so unwanted.
Mind boggling dialogues
1. A scene after a misunderstanding between hero & heroin(the misunderstanding arises cos hero kind of decides to dump her).
Hero to heroin: Namala madhiri allu ellam vazhnal muzhukka you schi than vazhanum.(with the flow and with the previous dialogues, this one just earned applause swept over by the audience.)
2. A scene after a misunderstanding between hero & heroin(the misunderstanding arises cos hero kind of decides to dump her)
Heroin to friend: Sophie, ulagathula intha oru aambla kittayavuthu maanaroshathoda irukkene.
3. A blind man’s piece of advice to the couple after they were banished from the shop: Vikka therinjavan thaaya vaazha therinjavan.
To be noticed
1. Marimuthu takes a decision for his friend to talk to the girl considering both their well being in mind. That shows a matured friendship though his efforts were all in vain ultimately.
2. Every little act takes you a step ahead in life. Marimuthu forges a friendly relationship with actress Sneha by impressing her with his album. This contact and timely idea to approach her fetched him a job, this is something to be noticed.
3. The public bathroom man; wonderful portrayal of attitude. This is what is called “rags to riches”, though he is yet to get to the rich position he has certainly crossed the rags position.
Realty bites
1.Sexual abuse could have been avoided. The more you display the worse it gets.
2.As we got too much into business and money, do we tend to get mechanised and machinated. As far as the characters “Annachi” & “Karungali” are portrayed it makes me feel so.
Bottom line
Perfect portrayal of lifestyle in Angadi theru, though scenes were quite sappy and violent, nonetheless that is the real scenario.
The movie scores a 9 on 10 for the whole package as it was a careful and intact selection of cast, nice storyline, perfect screenplay, lovely choreography and pleasant music; here we reduce the runs by 2 for the distraction of the director. As far as angadi theru is concerned, the story is over right after the couple gets banished from the shop and finds a right source of income. The lorry accident was simply intended to gather crowd by emotionally provoking the audience.
Nonetheless it gains its points back by 1.5 as the hero’s attitude to accept the life the way it comes is truly amazing, amazing enough to overshadow this distraction.
The movie scores a 8.5 on 10.
“Thank you for your time & Have a great day”

Nice Observations Ramya !! Especially the way you segregated them as sections !! Well, the film is recognized by most as a unique master piece of realistic films, i rather wonder , whether the film and the word of mouth in the blog world does have an impact in the society, because tat’s the real success of a socially responsible film such as this..
Ramya Writes: I was moved by the movie, except for the last few minutes. The last few minutes were unwanted tragedy. I can see that its from the bottom of your heart.

Ramya Writes: Thank you very much Malathy.
To be frank angadi theru is over rated movie becoz of following stuff:
screenplay is not at all clear and tends to go loose in many places
kani sister maturity sequences are really to much dramatized , even v are human beings
director has tried toooo much to create sympathy of audiences and genrate money .ie. climax and many sequences like pre interval sequences
come on yaar who ll tell a girl no to pee and place they show for mess and scenes are too much 2 digest
Angadi theru is really overly rated movie
Very true Vilvesh.. that is why I have given rating accordingly. I did not like anything apart from hero’s attitude, but if it was true as to how the girls were treated, I feel very bad for them.
